Mission Statement Our Purpose: The Taylor Fisher Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of a special young lady who left us too early in life. The scholarships are set up at Ouachita Parish, West Ouachita, West Monroe, Richwood and Sterlington High Schools and are given out yearly to graduating seniors at each school. This scholarship is set up to target those young adults who have done well in high school but are not at the top of their class making it hard for them to get a scholarship. This scholarship is also set up to target those young adults whose parents fall into the income category that does not allow them to receive grants but who’s parents can’t actually afford to send them to college. This scholarship is meant to give young adults who have the drive and want to continue their education the means to get started when they wouldn’t have gone on to college otherwise. Who is the Taylor Fisher Memorial Scholarship Fund? The Taylor Fisher Memorial Scholarship (TFMS) was founded in February 2014. Taylor is the daughter of Louie Fisher and Tammy Honeycutt. Taylor passed away unexpectedly at the age of 20 due to complications during a routine medical procedure. Louie and Tammy wanted to create something very meaningful to ensure that his daughter’s legacy of touching people’s lives in a positive manner continued thru time. These scholarships are setup to help young adults to continue their education after high school to better prepare them for the rest of their lives. There are countless young adults that have the drive and wants to continue their education but do not pursue this due to the lack of financial means. This organization is run by a five-member all-volunteer board, thus allowing us to maximize the use of donations to build the fund and hopefully be able to increase the scholarship amount as the years pass. Our organization has no paid staff which means 100% of all donations and profits from events goes toward the TFMS. The original single scholarship had previously been in the amount of $3,000 each year to one graduating student at Ouachita Parish High School. We have since expanded with $2,000 in additional scholarships at 4 additional local high schools (West Ouachita, West Monroe, Richwood, Sterlington) for a total of $5,000 in scholarships a year. Our goal is to be able to increase the dollar amount of each and increase the number of young adults we can help each year. We held the first annual bass tournament in July 2014 and it was a great success. In 2024 we are going to hold the 11th annual bass tournament on the Ouachita River. In years past we have had as many as 128 boats entered into the Memorial Tournament. We hope to be able to hold an annual mud ride this year or in the near future. The mission of the Taylor Fisher Memorial Scholarship Fund is to help raise money for the TFMS. We want to help young adults get a start on their secondary education to better prepare them for the ever-challenging job market.
