This years 11th annual Taylor Fisher Memorial Scholarship Bass Tournament is expected to be one of our areas premier fishing events. Thanks to many wonderful sponsors and volunteers, we will be paying out 10 places guaranteed with 1st place being $4000. The 2014 inaugural recipient of the "Taylor LeeAnn Fisher Memorial Scholarship" was La'Candis Brown. La'Candis is an 18 year old female that graduated with a GPA of 3.56 and an ACT score of 25. She is currently attending Spelman College for women of African descent in Atlanta, GA and is majoring in Biology. Some of La’Candis’s activities include, Jump-start, the BPPR Club, and membership in the ACU’s Peace and Love. La'Candis attended Ouachita Parish High School and was a member of many organizations.  While maintaining her GPA, she joined the Junior Civitan Club, Spanish Club, National Honor Society, and was a member of Student Government. La'Candis was also a trainer for the Ouachita Parish High School athletic department and was involved with several groups within her community. La'Candis Brown is a perfect example of how the "Taylor LeeAnn Fisher Memorial Scholarship" can have a profound effect on a student that has the determination to better their future. We are proud to have had a positive impact on this young lady’s education and look forward to assisting many more. The 2015 recipient of the "Taylor LeeAnn Fisher Memorial Scholarship" is Miss Ashley Gorman.  Ashley is a 19 year old female who is graduating from Ouachita Parish High School with a GPA of 3.4 and an ACT score of 24.  She currently plans to major in Pre-Vet/Animal Science at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, La upon graduation.    Ashley has been an active member of many organizations throughout her years at Ouachita Parish High School.  She was a member of Future Farmers of America all four years, a Chapter Officer for three years, and an Area Officer for two years.  All throughout high school, Ashley showed livestock and won several awards during this time.  These awards include Grand Champion York at the 2015 Delhi Livestock Show, Premier Swine Exhibitor at the 2015 Delhi Livestock Show, and Senior Grand Champion Broiler in 2012.  Ashley was also a member of the Spanish Club, Junior Civitan, and National Honor Society.  She was also active in events throughout her community as well.   Ashley volunteered at the River City Humane Society for cats, volunteered at the Agricultural Expo, and assisted special needs students during events/parties at Ouachita Parish High School.      Ashley Gorman has shown determination and strived to excel to the best of her abilities throughout her years at Ouachita Parish High School.  We are extremely honored to assist her in accomplishing her goals and further her education.   She is the perfect example of how the "Taylor LeeAnn Fisher Memorial Scholarship" continues to fulfill its' purpose.  Through her success and the success of future student's, Taylor LeeAnn Fisher's legacy will shine on forever.

The 2017 recipient of the “Taylor LeeAnn Fisher Memorial Scholarship” is Miss Kayla Stites.  Kayla is an 18 year old female, who has graduated from Ouachita Parish High School with a GPA of 4.0 and an ACT score of 22.  She currently plans to major in child life at Harding University in Searcy, AR.  Kayla has been an active member of many organizations throughout her years at Ouachita Parish High School.  She was a member of the gifted program, talented art, the Fellowship of Christian Students, the Spanish Club, the Jr. Civitan Club, Secretary of the National Honor Society, and Vice President of Student Government.  Kayla participated in athletics during her years at OPHS.  She was a member of the danceline, soccer team, and also the tennis team.  Kayla was an active member in her community as well.  She volunteered with many organizations such as the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Shelby’s Wish Foundation, Relay for Life, Special Olympics, Samaritan’s Purse, Child’s Christmas Box, Disaster Relief, the Humane Society, and last but certainly not least the Food Bank.    Kayla Stites is determined young lady with a very bright future.  We are honored to assist her with her future endeavors and accomplish her goals to further her education.  Students like her continue to be an example of how the “Taylor LeeAnn Fisher Memorial Scholarship” fulfills its purpose each year and the years to come.  With their help, ours, and that of our community we can continue to ensure Taylor’s legacy shines on forever.     The 2016 recipient of the “Taylor LeeAnn Fisher Memorial Scholarship” is Miss Katelyn Vaughan.  Katelyn is an 18 year old female, who is graduating from Ouachita Parish High School with a GPA of 4.0 and an ACT score of 29. Upon graduation, she currently plans to attend the University of Louisiana Monroe and major in Graphic Designs with a minor in English or Creative Writing.       Throughout Katelyn’s years at Ouachita Parish High School, she has been an active member of several organizations.  She served as Historian of the National Honor Society and was a member of the 4-H Junior Leader’s Organization.  Katelyn was a member of the Ouachita Parish High School Band for 4 years and was also a member of the school’s Talented Art Program.  She received a grant through this program for her hard work and perseverance.   Katelyn has been involved in assisting special needs students during her years at Ouachita Parish High School.  She assisted her fellow peers with a variety of parties and also the annual egg hunt that is held.  Katelyn attends New Life Community Church and volunteers teaching children’s church weekly.  She was also nominated for Ouachita Parish High School Student of the Year for the 2015-2016 school year.      Katelyn Vaughan has proven she has been an exemplary student throughout her years at Ouachita Parish High School.  She has excelled in her many accomplishments, and we are extremely honored to assist her on her journey and complete her goal of graduating college.  Katelyn is the perfect model to further show how the “Taylor LeeAnn  Fisher Memorial Scholarship” continues to thrive and fulfill its purpose to not only assist students to accomplish their goals in life, but also help Taylor’s legacy shine forever.
The 2018 recipient of the "Taylor LeeAnn Fisher Memorial Scholarship" is Miss Chiemeka Onyemechara. Chiemeka is a 17 year old female, who will graduate from Ouachita Parish High School with a GPA of 4.0 and an ACT score of 26. She will attend the University of Louisiana Monroe and major in Pre-Pharmacy.     Chiemeka has been an active member in many organizations while attending Ouachita Parish High School. She was a member of the Gifted and Talented Program, President of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Junior Civitans, and also Captain of the OPHS Soccer Team. Chiemeka has also served as an active member in her community by volunteering for activities such as the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Relay for Life, Katrina P. Jackson Annual Luncheon, Salvation Army, and has also volunteered her services at the Monroe Soup Kitchen. During her many activities, Chiemeka was also a nominee for the 2017-2018 Ouachita Parish High School Student of the Year.      We are honored to assist Miss Onyemechara in furthering her education and goal to become a pharmacist. She is a wonderful example of how the "Taylor LeeAnn Fisher Memorial Scholarship" can fulfill its purpose to have a positive impact in the lives of determined students year after year.
